About us

There has been a butchers at Lymington Farm since 1937. The original shop was built by my father Mr C.J. Read. That was quite a place. There was no fridge just a cool cellar. All the hanging rails were made from old cart wheel rims, even the counter (or Block as it was called) has a shelf to put your cigarette on while serving!! The Old Barn was regularly used for slaughtering sheep and cattle from the farm (No red tape then!).

This all seems a million miles away from our state of the art shop that we moved into during 2006, with its climate controlled preparation rooms and fridges. Having said that after a total refurbishment, part of the old shop is now a State of The Art Kitchen, where we make all our own Pasties, Pies, Sausage Rolls and Scotch Eggs.

All that aside we still stick to the old fashioned principle of only using and selling the Very best Meat, the majority of this coming from our own farm or selected farms. I don’t really know what Food Miles are, I just know we haven’t got many!!

Some of our own sausage recipes date from Mr C.J. Read!! All our Sausages and Burgers are made on site, in the old fashioned way. There’s something Special about a sausage that has real meat in it!.
